Bernard Drewelow
September 5, 1953 ~ October 26, 2014
Bernie was born September 5, 1953 in New Hampton, IA the son of Lyle and Dorothy (Champion) Drewelow. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1971. Following graduation he was married to Brenda Howell, to this union a daughter was born.
Bernie joined the Army and volunteered for the 82nd Air Born in 1972. He served as a paratrooper in the 1st Battalion, 325th Infantry "Blue Devils" and was nominated for the Green Beret. Following the military Bernie was reunited with his childhood sweetheart Mary Ann Roete and her three children. They were married July 13th 1985 at Boyd Church, in Boyd, IA to this union two children were born. He worked as line support at Sara Lee for 25 years. When Sara Lee closed their doors he went to Northeast Iowa Community College where he graduated with a CAD degree.
Bernie and Mary Ann loved to spend time together with their family at their trailer in Waterville, MN. He also enjoyed spending time fishing, woodworking, riding motorcycles, reading Louis L'Amour books, collecting, social networking on the internet, cruising the clearance racks from store to store, but most of all Bernie enjoyed his grandchildren.
Bernie is survived by his wife Mary Ann of New Hampton; children Teresa Laures of New Hampton, Dan (Christine) Venem of North Washington, IA, John (Alicia) Venem of Ionia, IA, Tia Drewelow of Indianapolis, IN, Tony (Jennifer) Drewelow of Waverly, IA, Tanya (Donny) Perkins of Cresco, IA; his brothers, James Drewelow of Lawler, IA and Les Drewelow of New Hampton, IA; grandchildren Shane, Beth, Sydney Laures; Ashton, Kale Venem; Sean Marshall, Jaxson, Arianna Venem; Brenda Lazo; Leelu, Nyko Drewelow; and one more on the way.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
