Becky was born on September 29, 1965 to Erwin and Laura Schulz of Lawler, IA. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Boyd. At the age of 5 Becky was diagnosed with a cancerous kidney. She underwent surgery to remove the kidney and had many hospital stays and weeks of radiation. She was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Boyd. Becky graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1984 and then enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, IA. A change in her career path led her to the School of Nursing in Calmar, IA and employment at New Hampton Nursing & Rehab. Once she became an RN, Becky was employed for several years at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA working with obstetrics, delivery and NICU babies. Becky’s dream was to one day work at Mayo Clinic and this dream was realized when she was hired at Mayo Clinic. She was very proud to work there helping others until her health declined and she was unable to continue working.

Becky’s greatest life event was the birth of her son, Dalton, in 1997. Dalton held the key to her heart and she always had a smile on her face when thinking of him or talking of him. In recent years they enjoyed watching movies, watching their favorite sports teams and sharing funny videos. Since she was a child growing up on the farm with many animals, Becky loved all animals. In the last few years she gave her love to Aubrey (dog) and Coda (cat)and they in turn were awesome companions for her. Becky also loved shopping and finding the greatest deals and even while homebound these past years she so enjoyed the online shopping experience. Becky’s family meant the world to her. It was important for her to always keep up-to-date on everyone’s birthdays, vacations, life events, etc., and in our hearts we knew she was always with us.

Becky is survived by her son Dalton Schulz of Rochester, MN, her sister-in-law Marsha Schulz of Oelwein, IA, her brother David Schulz of Durant, IA, her brother Dick Schulz of Ankeny, IA, her sister Sherry (Michael) Buttjer of Plainfield, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents Erwin & Laura Schulz, by her brother Roger Schulz, and by her sister-in-law Sandy Schulz.

  1. Hold those precious memories close. As a classmate I remember sleep overs growing up, band trips and fun times. Peace in God’s Loving Arms
    Pam Zabel

  2. Becky was a class behind me and I remember her as a quiet and kind young lady. My sympathy to her family. Lisa Schoonover Herold

  3. She was a very sweet lady in school. She was a classmate of mine but lost touch after school. She will be missed.

  4. My sincere sympathy to Beckys’ family, she was a friend of my daughter Ladine years ago. May she fly with the angels now in heaven and our Lord. Sincerely Linda Stolfus

  5. I worked with Becky before she went to Mayo in nursing! She was a nurse with a big heart! Her greatest love was her son, Dalton. Rest in peace! 🪽

  6. Sherry and families, So saddened to hear of your loss. Thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the days ahead.

  7. I went to nursing school with Becky and then worked with her at the nursing home. She was an awesome nurse. I talked to her later, after she moved to Rochester and she just glowed when she talked about Dalton. May she rest in peace.

  8. Becky and I started back to school together, then worked night shifts at the nursing home. Night shifts can be challenging, but could also be fun, and our crew had many laughs together. Later, we moved on to different jobs, but kept in touch and got together when we could. I recently had talked with Becky, and despite health issues, she remained positive, and even found humor in some of the situations. Becky was a great Mom and was always proud and happy to talk about Dalton and his accomplishments. Becky will be deeply missed by many. RIP Becky.
