On October 21,2022, Barry Dean Winters passed away peacefully in his home after his hard-fought battle with cancer at the age of 66. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in New Hampton have been entrusted with Barry's arrangements. In Honor of Barry's Legacy, the Celebration of Life will be Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Whitetails Bar & Grill -101 North Main Marble Rock, Iowa from 11-3pm. Barry was born on January 21, 1956 to Virgel and Bette Winters. Barry grew up in a family with six other siblings beginning in Mason City, Iowa but eventually moving to a farm outside of Rockford, Iowa. On July 6, 1974, Barry was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Jacqulyn Willsher. To this union 2 children were brought into the family Jason Winters and Jessica (Winters) Kothenbeutel. Barry was a very athletic person. In Junior High he astonished his gym teachers with his triple flips on the trampoline. In high school he broke the Rockford High School's High Jump Record and it held for several years. He was an avid baseball, track, and basketball player. Later in life, he continued his competitive streak as a golfer and a bowler. When he would hear his children and their friends say “I can’t”. His response to them would be “Can’t” ain’t a word meaning don't give up and try to do the task at hand, be a Doer not a Bullsh*tter !! He loved fishing and boating on his families Pontoon floating on the Shell Rock River located behind the homestead. He was known for having full sized Teepees near the river and having friends & family over for parties and reunions. By the river we would have a huge campfire and contests of throwing axes and knives at a log target that he made. He enjoyed building stock cars with Marvin Enabnit and watching him race at the I-35 Speedway and enjoyed building demolition derby cars for his son and friends for the local fairs in the area. Barry had various jobs starting with working at the Rockford Brick & Tile, a machinist at White Farm in Charles City, and then on to Sukups in Sheffield. Barry then became self-employed as a metal refurbisher, and started his own business as a Welding Shop, repairing and building farmers machinery and fabricating parts for companies which years later resulted in taking the metal shop business to a new level of creativity called The Winters Gallery where he designed his own creations with a CNC plasma cutting table making lawn ornaments, unique windmills, rain gauges, weather vanes, family heirloom signs, old replica logging saws and metal hearts which you may have at your home today. They sold the Metal Art business and bought the local restaurant with his wife Jackie and became owners of Whitetails Bar & Grill for 19 years. He had a passion for woodworking which led him to building their dream house log cabin. He was inspired by working with wood so he created another business in Marble Rock and created one of a kind tables, chairs, cabinets, desks, toys, and restored antique furniture. Barry will be remembered by his good deeds in helping Marble Rock prosper. You could not come to Marble Rock and not hear the name Barry Winters. He was a member of the Marble Rock Park Board and facilitated improving the City Park, he contributed to the design and development of a Frisbee golf course in the park, built the gazebo on Main Street, facilitated improvement on the Power House by the Shell Rock River, refurbished several buildings in the city including the First Security Bank building restoration. His last gift to the town was the vision of a covered bridge near the river. Barry started the process of building the bridge and it was completed by several community members to fulfill his main goal of his bucket list. Barry took great pride in his town and would want his vision to carry on for years to come. Barry is survived by his wife Jackie, his children Jason (Cinda) and Jessica (Brian), 2 grandsons Devon and Taylor Kothenbeutel. Also survived by his sisters Sandra Field and Victoria Rowe; brothers Michael, Willard (Tina), Tracy (Heather), and Jamie Winters; aunts and uncles; cousins; nieces; and nephews.
