Arnold “Arnie” Tank , age 77 of New Hampton, Iowa died Monday evening, May 31, 2010, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday June 4, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. The pall will be placed by his wife and children. Dennis Strum will be the organist with selections, “Amazing Grace” by the congregation, “In The Garden” by Pastor Kevin Frey, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” special CD. Interment will be in New Hampton City Cemetery with Dave Wilson, Travis Tank, Gary Tank, Kenneth Tank, Aaron Bartz and Shawn Bartz as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnie’s grandchildren, Travis Tank, Tyler Tank, Tanner Tank, Sam Tank, Jake Tank, Jamie Wilson and Marcy Uglum. Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arnold Kenneth Tank was born November 19, 1932, in Lawler, IA the son of Harold F. and Mabel V. (Lewig) Tank. He was baptized December 18, 1932, at the former St. John Lutheran Church in Lawler and confirmed June 27, 1948, at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Arnie received his education in Lawler and after his 8th grade graduation in 1948, he began working for his Dad’s company, H.F. Tank Construction. On July 16, 1955, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua, Arnie was united in marriage to Lurlean E. Smith. To this union four children were born; Shirley in 1957, Marlys in 1958, and twin brothers, Dennis and Darrell in 1961. After his marriage to Lurlean, the couple moved to New Hampton where he began his own construction company, building houses and apartment buildings until failing eyesight forced him to retire. Arnie enjoyed roller skating, dancing, ice skating, NASCAR, fishing, gardening and woodworking until his eyesight deteriorated. Visiting casinos was a much enjoyed pastime. He loved taking his children camping and vacationing when they were younger and loved seeing his grandchildren as much as possible. Arnie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lurlean; two daughters, Shirley (Linn) Wagoner and Marlys (Glenn) Uglum both of Lawler; two sons, Dennis (Anne) Tank of Minneapolis, MN and Darrell (Teresa) Tank of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Jamie (Dave) Wilson of Alta Vista, Travis (Nina) Tank, Tyler and Tanner Tank all of Austin, TX, Marcy Uglum of Lawler and Sam Tank and Jake Tank of Minneapolis, MN; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Colin Wilson; one sister, Lois Hackman of Evansdale, IA and one sister-in-law, Jean Tank of New Hampton; three brothers, Wendell (LaVonne) Tank, LeRoy (Sandy) Tank and Alan (Karen) Tank all of New Hampton; one brother-in-law, Clarence Haupt Jr, of Sumner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mabel Tank; two sisters, Ruth Tank and Helen Haupt; two brothers, Walter and LaVerne Tank.
