Arlene Steege

Arlene L. Steege age 88 of Fredericksburg died Wednesday morning, December 21, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2011, at Peace United Church of Christ, Fredericksburg with Pastor Burt Williams officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with great-grandchildren, Brandon Uhlenberg, Brock Uhlenberg, Alex Uhlenberg, Bryce Uhlenberg, Sadie Uhlenberg, Ryan Uhlenberg and Melissa Uhlenberg serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are her great-great-grandchildren, Jackson Uhlenberg, Hannah Uhlenberg, Karston Uhlenberg and Bella Uhlenberg.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday.
Arlene Leona Steege was born January 7, 1923, in rural Bremer County, IA, near Tripoli, the daughter of Herman and Emilie (Schweer) Schwem. She received her education in Tripoli and attended the Tripoli High School. On July 11, 1939, at Faith Evangelical Church, Tripoli, she married Lloyd John Steege. To this union, a daughter, Marilyn was born. The couple farmed for 20 years south of Fredericksburg and in 1959, moved into Fredericksburg. Arlene began working for the United States Postal Service where she worked for many years and later retiring.
She and her husband enjoyed wintering for many years in Arizona, camping, bowling, golfing and playing cards. She especially loved the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn (Vernon) Uhlenberg of Fredericksburg; three grandsons, Michael (Nancy) Uhlenberg of Fredericksburg; Ronald (Connie) Uhlenberg of Marshalltown, Dean (Jill) Uhlenberg of Red Oak, IA; one sister, Marlys Stahlhut of Tripoli; one sister-in-law, Genevieve Steege of Fredericksburg; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon (Cindy) Uhlenberg, Brock (Jacque) Uhlenberg, Alex Uhlenberg, Bryce Uhlenberg, Sadie Uhlenberg, Ryan Uhlenberg and Melissa Uhlenberg; four great-great-grandchildren, Jaskson Uhlenberg, Hannah Uhlenberg, Karston Uhlenberg and Bella Uhlenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd on December 9, 1994; two sisters, Irma Slack, Margaret Schwem, one brother, Loraine Schwem.
