Anna Borlaug

Anna S. Borlaug, age 77, died on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in New Hampton.
Anna Sylvia Borlaug was born on December 11, 1930 to John and Clara (Johnson) Borlaug at Saude, Iowa. She attended West Saude Country School and graduated from Bethany High School in 1948. Anna received her normal training at Upper Iowa University and then taught at rural schools in Iowa. She moved to New York City in1957, where she continued to teach while she attended night school and summer school and received her doctorate in education from New York University. Anna continued working in education in New York and New Jersey until moving to Washington, DC in 1979. She took a job working for the federal government in 1989 and later retired to New Hampton where she has enjoyed living. She was a member of the Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Anna enjoyed traveling and was a devout Pittsburg Steelers fan.
Anna is survived by one brother Harold (Eunice) Borlaug of Lawler and two nephews Jonathan Borlaug of Cedar Falls and Tom (Monica) Borlaug of Prior Lake, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Clara, sister Charlotte Swehla and nephews Larry Swehla, Charles Swehla and Todd Borlaug.
Cemetery:
Burial will be in Saude Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery at Saude.
Visitation:
Visitation will be at the church from 1:00pm to the time of service.
Service:
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church at Saude, Iowa with Pastor Daniel Larson officiating.

Aunt Sis was very special to me. Even though we werent related by blood we had a very special relationship, and I will miss her dearly. She was very important to Chuck and me. She truly understood this familys idiosnycrasies and loved and accepted us in spite of them. I will always treasure what we meant to each other. Rest in peace..you deserve nothing less. Verna Swehla
I grew up hearing stories about “Anna Sylvia” from my Mom, Mary Eileen Anderson, and my Aunt Pauline Anderson. When I met her, as an adult, we hit it off immediately. We have corresponded by email and letters for years and I will miss her. As she would always sign off “Love Ya”
Im the grandaughter of Pauline “Johnson” Anderson, daughter of Carol Ann Walker and live in Olathe, Kansas. I grew up with stories about Aunt Sis and her teaching and antiques. May God bless her.
My deepest sympathies to Sis family. Her loss will be greatly felt among all of us. My fondest memories of Sis was when she would come to our house to visit when I was a child. We would hear such wonderful stories and yes, she accepted everyone for who they were, faults and all. We were very fortunate to have known her and better because of it. God Bless you Sis and say “hey” to my mom. Love you.

I will miss seeing Anna at weddings and other family events. She was so unique with her hats and always had a kind comment and greeting whenever I saw her. She was interesting to talk to as well.
