Alma Lampe

Alma F. Lampe age 98 of Fredericksburg died Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the New Hampton Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Alma F. Lampe was born May 18, 1912, in Hanover, Germany, the daughter of Karl and Anna (Heusmann) Homeyer. In 1925, at the age of 13, Alma came by ship to the United States with her grandmother, a brother and cousin. She was unable to speak any English. Alma worked as a cleaning lady at a hotel in Waverly until she married Elmer H. Lampe on November 24, 1932, in Waverly, IA. The couple made their living on a farm and raised their one son, Jim. Alma always enjoyed having a large garden, knitting, playing cards and attending Ladies Aide. She also enjoyed visits from her only granddaughter. Alma was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. Survivors include one son, Jim (Marian) Lampe of Plainfield; one granddaughter, Dixie (Tom) Orthel of Milford, IA; nieces and nephews in Germany and the U.S. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1979; one brother, William Homeyer and a half-sister, Elfrieda Mason.
