Alice Carpenter

Alice M. Carpenter, age 80 of North Washington, Iowa died Saturday,October 6, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by her husband and children. Lectors for the service will be Sharon Carpenter and Heather Pecinovsky. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Nolan Howard, Austin Carpenter and Emma Carpenter. Music will be provided by the Immaculate Conception Men’s Choir.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Washington with Eric Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter, Justin Carpenter, Cary Carpenter, Tony Green, Travis Smith, Shaun Smith, Dustin Smith, Nathan Howard and Nick Howard as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Heather Pecinovsky, Kristi Hauser, Alicia Biggerstaff, Kelsey Carpenter, Nolan Howard, Austin Carpenter and Emma Carpenter.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 5:00 p.m. parish scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.
Alice Marie Carpenter was born April 20, 1932, on the Schwickerath family farm near North Washington, IA, the daughter of Alfred and Josephine (Mishak) Schwickerath. She received her education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in North Washington. On September 19, 1950, Alice was united in marriage to Herbert Carpenter, in North Washington. The couple farmed together, west of
North Washington, with Alice being an integral part of the operation while also raising her family. Herb and Alice also owned Herb’s Hideaway in Ionia and Moonshine Tap in North Washington, where she spent many hours working outside the home.
She enjoyed family get-togethers and good times at their cabin in Carrville. She loved vacations with the family, looking out her dining room window watching the birds at their feeders and the cars going by. Herb and Alice had wonderful times going to casinos together.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years Herb; 7 children, Ken (Joyce) Carpenter of Rochester, MN, Dennis (Rosemary) Carpenter of North Washington, IA, Duane Carpenter of Fredericksburg, IA, Sharon Carpenter of New Hampton, IA, Donna Smith of New Hampton, IA, Ron (Darla) Carpenter of North Washington, IA, Joni Carpenter of New Hampton, IA; 17 grandchildren, Eric & Ryan Carpenter; Heather Pecinovsky and Alicia Biggerstaff; Justin, Cary, Austin and Emma Carpenter; Tony Green; Travis, Shaun, Dustin Smith and Kristi Hauser; Kelsey Carpenter; Nathan, Nick and Nolan Howard; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Marlys) Schwickerath and Cletus (Eleanor) Schwickerath all of New Hampton, IA; one sister, Bernice Felder of New Hampton and numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Jerome Carpenter, Ionia, IA; sister-in-law, Bernice Flick, Ionia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred & Josephine (Mishak) Schwickerath; her sister, Joanna Geerts; stillborn twin daughters; her in-laws, Elmer Geerts, Ray Felder, Russell Carpenter, Don & Eleanor Rosonke, Willis & Marlys Baldwin and Louis Flick.
Kristi & family, I’m sorry for the loss of your Grandmother; my prayer is for comfort, that your family will be blessed by fond memories and love shared.
