Agnes M. Riley, age 91 of Elma, IA died on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Colonial Manor in Elma, IA.
Agnes Marie Riley was born on November 17, 1917 to George and Elizabeth (Gardner) Budke in Elma, IA. Agnes graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma, IA in 1936. On August 16, 1949 she married Paul James Riley at Immaculate Conception Church at Elma. Agnes worked at the Elma post office as a clerk for 36 years and retired on January 16, 1983.
Agnes enjoyed genealogy, collecting postal stamps and coins. She enjoyed refinishing family heirloom furniture and harness shop tools. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, Rosary Society and the United States Post Office Union.
Agnes is survived by two sisters-in-law Frances Shannon of New Hampton, IA and Josephine Riley of Cape Coral, FL; a brother-in-law Lee (Ronnie) Riley of Charles City, IA; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul on January 6, 1995; a Sister Mary Georgine (Elizabeth) RSM; a brother George and a sister-in-law Mary Catherine Budke.
Cemetery:
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Elma, IA.
Visitation:
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma with a 4:30 pm Rosary and a scriptural wake service at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home on Thursday.
Service:
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Elma, IA with Father Carl Schmitt as celebrant. Sister Mary Lenore will be the organist accompanying the choir in singing Be Not Afraid, Prayer of St. Francis, On Eagles Wings and How Great Thou Art.

I remember visiting Aunt Agnes as a small girl. I was totally in awe of the beautiful home she and Uncle Paul had. She was a kind lady and very interesting to talk to. I enjoyed helping her (very little) on the “Riley” family history with her. She will be missed. God Bless Pattie Riley Barz
My dad (Vivian Riley) and I always enjoyed visiting his Elma birthplace. We particularly enjoyed the family reunions that Agnes put together when we came for those visits. She also helped me organize the “Riley” genealogy that I will now be able to pass on to my sons. She was a bright and gifted woman that I had the pleasure of spending time with over the years. Agnes was such a wonderful and interesting LADY. Through the years we would help Agnes with projects that she would bring into our shop. We would spend many the afternoon talking about genealogy and her fathers harness shop. Whenever we had a chance to deliver orders to her home in Elma, she would set us down and keep us “entertained” with so many different areas of her life. She truly loved her family and friends and was always willing to share stories about them. Such a wonderful person, that we always felt honored to have met and felt privileged to call her a friend. May God be with all who knew and loved Agnes.
