Agnes A. (Schmitt) Meyer age 83 of New Hampton, formerly of St. Lucas died Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, St. Lucas with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. Placing the pall will be Agnes' daughters. Lorraine Kuennen will be the organist accompanying the church choir. Lisa Cronkwright will also be the flutist. Lectors for the service are Dan Conlon, Sue Kuennen and Judy Praska. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Eric Conlon, Tim Conlon, Doug Cronkwright, Leo Frost, Adam Shores and Nick Soules serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Agnes' grandchildren and great grandchildren. Friends may greet the family 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas where there will be a 4:00 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton is in charge of arrangements. Agnes A. Meyer was born February 3, 1928, on the Schmitt Family Farm, near St. Lucas, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Blong) Schmitt. She was the oldest of their eleven children. Agnes attended school at St. Luke’s Catholic Grade School in St. Lucas. On October 4, 1949, she married Cletus J. Meyer of St. Lucas and they settled on the Meyer Homestead Farm just west of St. Lucas. There were ten children born to their union. Cletus and Agnes were life-long dairy farmers. Agnes was known for her love of gardening and sharing the fruits of her labor: flowers, vegetables and fruits. She was a remarkable cook and baker, especially of breads. Everything was made with love and also shared with others. Since 2004, Agnes has resided at the New Hampton Care Center following a bout with cancer. Survivors include three sons, Lee (Kathy) Meyer, Robert (Wilma) Meyer and Tom (Connie) Meyer all of St. Lucas; five daughters, Alice (Dan) Conlon of New Hampton, Shirley (Dean) Shores of Leland, IA, Dorothy (Tim) Frost and Norma (Garret) Bunn all of Raymond, IA; Mary (Bob) Kalb of Aurora, IA; son-in-law, Wayne Bina of LaCrescent, MN; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Tony Schmitt of Dickeyville, WI; Msgr. Carl Schmitt of New Hampton, Floyd (Deb) Schmitt of Castalia, Raymond (Nancy) Schmitt of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters, Verna (Al) Massman of New Albin, IA, Emily (Cleo) Heying of Postville, IA and Elaine (Roger) Kleve of Cresco; three sisters-in-law, Irene Dietzenbach of Waucoma, Felicia Schmitt of Platteville, WI and Imelda Schmitt of West Union. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Schmitt; her husband Cletus, on November 12, 2006; two daughters, Helen in 1990 and Marlene in 2009; son-in-law, Dick Soules in 1989; two brothers, Clem and Henry Schmitt; one sister, Marie Schmitt.
