Born March 3, 1943 to John and Marie (Jacobs) Mehmen. Raised in and around Nashua, Johnie was a proud graduate of Nashua High School, class of 1961. It was there that he met the love of his life, Kay Davidson. Their high school sweetheart romance blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were united in marriage on September 15, 1963, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clarksville—a place that would remain central to Johnie’s life.
Johnie’s work ethic was unmatched, as demonstrated by his long-standing service at the Oliver/White Farm, where he dedicated over two decades of hard work. His commitment continued at Nestle, where he spent another 20 years contributing to the company’s success. His involvement with his workplace was only paralleled by his devotion to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua. Not only did he help build the church, but he also attended services there throughout his life. It is fitting that his funeral services will be held in the sanctuary that he helped construct and where he found great solace and community.
Outside of work and church, Johnie had a zest for life that was infectious. He loved line dancing, an activity where he could express his joy and energy. He was also an avid golfer, finding peace on the greens and fairways. Snowmobiling and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, offering him a chance to revel in the beauty of nature and the thrill of the catch. A competitive spirit, Johnie was known for his love of playing cards, a pastime where he enjoyed friendly rivalry and laughter with friends and family.
Above all, Johnie delighted in time spent with his grandchildren. Each moment with them was treasured, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and adventures. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his presence as a guiding and loving force will be deeply missed.
Johnie is survived by his wife Kay Mehmen of Charles City; sons: Scott Mehmen of Charles City, Chris (Jody) Mehmen of Charles City, and Brad (Stephanie) Mehmen of Colo, Iowa; daughter Stacey (Jef) Huffman of Nashua; brother Gary (Karla) Mehmen of Nashua; sister Idella (Mel) Folkerts of Shell Rock; grandchildren: Zach, Carly, Kelly, Courtney, Brooke, Taylor, Ashley, and Katrina; great-grandchildren: Kylie, Noah, and Elena; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Marie (Jacobs) Mehmen; sister Mary Ellen (Bill) Martin; and nephew Darren Martin.
