Steven Mehmen

Steven Ray Mehmen, age 72 of Nashua, Iowa died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nashua with Rev. Charis Combs-Lay celebrating the service. Interment will follow at Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, Iowa with Al Feldt, Ray Feldt, Kyle Mehmen, Mike Marr, Greg Hosch and Matt Kocher serving as pallbearers. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory – Olsen Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to service on Tuesday at the church. Steve was born December 14, 1946 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Ray and Dorothy (Collings) Mehmen. He attended country school southwest of Nashua prior to attending school in Plainfield, graduating in 1965. Following graduation, Steve found work in the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area and continued to return home to help on the family farm. He returned to the Nashua/Plainfield area and continued to farm while working as an electrician and later at the Oliver plant in Charles City. He was also a proud member of the Iowa National Guard. It was when Steve began to farm full time that he truly began living his dream. He was able to pursue his chosen career the remainder of his life. During his life, he also found the joy of being a Dad and step-dad to his children. He loved them deeply and was always proud of them. Later in life he found even more joy in being a grandpa. His love for them showed in his actions and words. He could also be stern with them if need be, but that emotion rarely showed. How could it? They were, after all, beacons of light in his world. When Steve wasn’t working or spending time with family and friends, he collected antique tractors, toy farm machinery and clocks. When Steve married his wife, his circle of those he called family grew as did the memories. His family is truly blessed to have many wonderful memories to cherish. He is survived by his wife Teresa (Terri) Mehmen of Nashua; five children Jennifer Mehmen of Davenport, Iowa, Nickolas Mehmen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Erick Mehmen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Heather (Jay) Grobe of Marshalltown, Iowa and Justin (Allison) Becthold of Clear Lake, Iowa; one brother, Stanley (Karmen) Mehmen of Nashua, Iowa, one sister Daleth (Dale) Pothast of Allison, Iowa; brother-in-laws Charles Feldt of Osage, Iowa, Steve Becthold of Boone, Iowa, Jeff (Glenda) Becthold of St. James, Minnesota, Brian Becthold of Oelwein, Iowa and Mike (Jen) Becthold of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Father-in-law Ray (Jan) Becthold of Allison, Iowa. Six grand-children Ella Mehmen, Jillian Mehmen, Joseph Becthold, Ryan Becthold, Ryan Grobe, Leah Grobe and an honorary grandchild, Karley Becthold together with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Diane Feldt and mother-in-law Judith Becthold.
