Roger William Nibaur of Elma, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born July 15, 1938, on the Nibaur farm in Lourdes, Iowa, the son of William and Mae (Vorda) Nibaur. Raised with the values of hard work and deep faith, Roger attended Our Lady of Lourdes School through 10th grade before graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in Elma in 1957.

While in high school, Roger met and fell in love with the love of his life, Marilee Conway. The two married on September 19, 1959, and together they welcomed six children: Mark, Randy, Michele, BJ, Michael, and Scott.

Roger and Marilee found great happiness farming and raising their children on the family farm, which recently earned Century Farm designation. Roger took pleasure in working his land, milking cattle, and raising hogs. His journey through life reflected his love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He particularly looked forward to annual fishing trips with his sons.  Roger also enjoyed golfing and bowling with friends and family.  He and Marilee traveled throughout Iowa to different bowling alleys and golf courses to participate in leagues and tournaments.

A dedicated community member, Roger served on the Hawkeye REC Board for 19 years, was a devoted Knights of Columbus member, and served on several committees at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. His strong faith and deep love for family guided him throughout his life.

In their later years, Roger and Marilee enjoyed traveling together and never missed their grandchildren’s sporting events and music recitals.  They also enjoyed wintering in Arizona and made some great friends while making new memories.  Another highlight, and something he looked forward to on many Fridays, was when his cousin Francis Nibaur would pick him up for their special trips to Jerico for coffee and conversation with friends.  Thank you, Francis!  We know how much dad loved to visit and reminisce.

Roger’s family takes comfort knowing he is now at peace. They remain grateful for their time with him and take pride in the grace and strength he showed when facing life’s challenges.

Roger is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilee Nibaur of Elma, Iowa; six children: Mark (Lori) Nibaur of Austin, MN; Randy Nibaur of Elma, Iowa; Michele (Tom) Kruse of Marion, Iowa; William Joseph (BJ) Nibaur of Marion, Iowa; Michael (Cindy) Nibaur of Willmar, MN; and Scott (Amy) Nibaur of Iowa City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mae Nibaur; grandchildren Ryan Thomas Kruse and Emileigh Hope Nibaur; and sister Berenice (Fay) Freidhof; In-laws, Bob and Charlotte Conway.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Colonial Manor and St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care and support of Roger.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roger’s honor to the Iowa Department of the Blind 524 4th St, Des Moines, IA 50309.

  1. Our deepest sympathies to the entire Nibaur family. Have lots of great memories from years ago with slow pitch softball up at Lourdes. He was a great guy….May God hold you all extra close throughout these tough days….hold tight to the great “moments” you all have of him. Little extra hug to you, Michelle- truly a great guy. With sympathy…

  2. Our sincere condolences to you Marilee and your children. May Roger rest in eternal peace. Hugs and prayers for you all.
    Sincerely,
    Louise and Donn

  3. Michelle sorry to hear that this time of transition has come into your lives. Sounds like he was a great man. We are remembering you, your mom and whole family in prayer.

  4. Marilee & Families,
My deepest sympathy for your loss. Roger was a fine man and growing up it seemed like he was always smiling. Gathering together at Grandpa & Grandma Shimek’s or at the hall in Lourdes – many memories were made & I will cherish them all.
    Judy (Shimek) Albert

  5. Marilee and family. I was lucky to be in the 1959 graduate class at I C Academy in Elma and was fortunate to know you and Roger. In fact I witnessed young love developing when Roger came to I C when Lourdes school closed. I will be praying for all of you and Roger. Judi Freidhof Henderson. (Mrs Tom).
