Born on September 20, 1963, to William and Opal (Johnson) Martin, and his journey through life took him to places far and wide, leaving a trail of friendships and memories in his wake.

Mike’s early years were spent in Nashua, Iowa, where he received his education and laid the foundations for a life characterized by service and dedication. Before even completing high school, Mike made the commendable decision to enlist in the Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country and the values he held dear. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

After his military service, he embarked on a career that saw him become an emblem of the American roadways. For 38 years, he was a familiar face to many, trucking across the country and sharing stories with people from all walks of life. Mike’s love for his semis and motorcycles was not just a hobby; it was a passion that fueled his zest for life, embodying the freedom of the open road.

His infectious energy and spirited nature meant that no one remained unknown to him for long. He lived life on the wild side, often being the person others would turn to for guidance, especially when it came to directions. His reputation as a walking roadmap was well-earned, as he always knew the best routes to take, both on the highways and in life.

Family was the cornerstone of Mike’s world. He was married to Mary Meyer of New Hampton and later to Tonya Bodecker of Evansdale. From these unions came his four beloved sons: Beau, Ben, Brennen, and Braydan. Ralph’s love for his sons was immeasurable, and he took immense pride in supporting and following them in all their endeavors. His role as a father extended to his grandchildren, whom he adored with every fiber of his being.

The words adventurous and spirited barely scratch the surface when describing Mike.
