Penny Reicks, 66, of Lawler, Iowa, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM at The Mint in Protivin, Iowa. 

Penny was born on October 24, 1959, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Carmen and Everett Smith, and grew up in Houston, Minnesota. 

Penny lived a meaningful life marked by love, family, and dedication. Penny first married Sherman Halverson, and together they welcomed four children: Crystal, Jessica, Levi, and Lance. 

Later in life, Penny found lasting love with Duane “Dewey” Reicks, building a partnership filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion. The two were married on January 21, 2006, and shared a beautiful 19-year marriage that lasted the remainder of her life. 

She was filled with joy when making memories with her family, cooking, time outdoors, and playing various card games. Penny will be fondly remembered for her love of family traditions, caring heart, contagious laugh and smile, as well as the way she made everyone feel at home. 

Penny is survived by her beloved husband, Dewey, her four children, Crystal (Rob) Dunkelberg of Beloit, Wisconsin; Jessica Huber of Fredericksburg, Iowa; Levi (Ryan) Dunn-Reicks of Davenport, Iowa; and Lance Halverson of Cresco, Iowa. She is remembered with love by her four grandchildren: Aryah, Sofia, Cadyn, and Landon; three great-grandchildren, her sister Paulette Tsutsumi, nieces and nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Al (Judy) Reicks, Eileen Reicks-Nelson, Kathy (Randy) Vanwinkle, Sue Reicks, Leeann (Mark) Reicks, Mike (Jennie) Reicks, Steve (Tammy) Reicks, as well as other relatives and close friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gail Porter; father and mother-in-law, Eugene “Butch” and Grace Reicks; and brothers-in-law, Dave Reicks & Jerry Nelson. 

Penny leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Regional Health Services of Howard County Hospice for their care and compassion during this time.
