Patrick Joseph Fogarty, fondly known as PJ to his friends and family, passed away on December 3, 2025, in Iowa City, IA. Born on December 5, 1981, in Osage, IA, the son of Pat and Linda (Laue) Fogarty. PJ was a spirited soul who brought immense joy and laughter to all who knew him.

PJ’s educational journey was marked by his spirited involvement and accomplishments, notably as a proud member of the 1999 state championship football team at New Hampton Community Schools, where he graduated in 2001. His passion for teamwork and community was evident on the field and carried into his professional life. PJ furthered his education at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, IA, where he honed his skills and prepared for a career that would see him become a respected figure in his field.

His professional life was a testament to his dedication and work ethic. PJ carved out a successful career in the traffic control industry, starting at Tri-State Signing in New Hampton and later bringing his expertise to Iowa Plains Signing in Slater, IA. As a supervisor, he shared a special camaraderie and tight bond with his crew. PJ’s knowledge and support made him quite the beloved figure and will be highly missed on the road.

PJ’s interests and hobbies painted the picture of a man who embraced life with open arms. He was an avid biker, loving nothing more than cruising on his Harley Davidson, feeling the freedom of the open road with the wind in his face. PJ was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan and had a love for classic cars, owning a handful, as well as having quite the collection of unique Weber grills.

PJ’s gentle giant nature was complemented by his special companion, Ziva, his beloved Pit Bull of over 13 years. Ziva brought him immense joy and companionship, tagging alongside him when the opportunity arose.

Above all, PJ will be remembered for his infectious laugh and the warmth he extended to everyone around him. His presence was a comfort as many called him a big Teddy Bear and were always awaiting a hug. His laughter a melody, his friendship a gift, PJ’s ability to light up a room and bring smiles to the faces of others will be deeply missed.

PJ is survived by three siblings, Tony Rapenske, Randy Rapenske, and Amy (Jessie) Houser, all of New Hampton, nieces & nephews, Drew, Alexis, and Abby Dirksen, Shelby, Brady, Baylee, Andi, Elizabeth, and Ethan Rapenske, Levi Pontenberg, Dylan, and Dakota Houser.
