He attended country school near his home by the Reilly Ridge Church. He attended New Hampton High School through his junior year before transfering to Turkey Valley High School and graduating with the class of 1961. His class was the first graduating class from TV. One night in Lawler, while he was cruising in his new 1963 Chevy Impala, Mickey met the love of his life, Sherri Barnett. The couple was married on May 28, 1966 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Hampton. To this union three children were born; Kristy, Kathleen and Tony. In August of 1964 Mickey proudly joined the Army National Guard serving until August of 1970. The couple farmed north of Lawler for many years. He always enjoyed being outside, because sitting still was not something Mickey did well, he always had to be working on something. Even after his retirement from farming in 1998, he worked at Blazek Corporation with his cousins Gene and Don Blazek Sr. Mickey was excited to go back this season before he became ill. Mickey truly enjoyed working at Blazek Corporation with all the guys there. The comradary with his fellow work mates meant the world to him. In Mickey's free time, he restored and renovated old vehicles. Along with his son Tony, Mickey worked on many vehicles and tractors, including a 1963 Impala and a 1931 Dodge Brothers. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. You would often catch him entertaining them and giving them a hard time. He is survived by his wife Sherri, of New Hampton, IA; three chrildren, Kristy Blazek-Hopes of Sheffield, IA, Kathleen (Kevin) Bonthius of Edina, MN and Tony (Amanda) Blazek of Lawler, IA; six granddaughters, Annie, Mickey, Destiny, Becca, Emma, Alexandra; two grandsons, Anthony and Liam; one sister, Mary Eileen (Jerry) Anstoetter of Farley, IA; one brother, Jack (Dianne) Blazek of Lawler, IA; one brother-in-law, Jim Barnett of New Hampton, IA; several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. 6. Our sympathies to Sherri, Kristy, Kate, Tony and families. Mickey always had a strong handshake and smile when you met him. He was very proud of his children/grandchildrens accomplishments. Many memories over the years from Reilly Ridge to Tony’s farmstead. I remember like it was yesterday when Mickey and Sherri stopped at the farm to visit my Parents and we were ecstatic to tell them about getting an Atari 2600 for Christmas. As Mickey was very electronic savy, he got it all hooked up for us that evening while he was visiting. We were all pretty young and very excited to start playing Pac-Man and Mortal Combat! He even played a few games with us, LOL. He will be missed by many and has been a great role model to his children. May he rest in peace with our Lord.

  12. Mickey and Sherri were was my adopted “uncle” and “aunt” when I was growing up. I lived with their family for probably 40% of my childhood years. One of my favorite memories of Mickey was when Kate & I begged him to take us for a ride in his white Mustang convertible. He took us for an unforgettable ride down the Jerico blacktop and he drove so fast that it made Kate cry. Mick & Sherri took me and Kate up to Minneapolis to see our favorite band, Duran Duran, when we were prepubescent teens. He also took us on many weekend shopping trips which is indicative of the level of patience he had! I will miss his warm smile, his quick wit, and his heartfelt kindness. Mickey was one of a kind.

  13. My deepest sympathies to Sherri, Kristi, Kate and Tony.

Mickey was a genuine person and just a great guy! He was a role model father and husband. He treated you like his own kid and loved his family.

I will treasure going to the Blazek farm for Halloween as a kid for trick and treating. Spending time at their farm for get togethers.

    He raised a beautiful family!

    May God Bless you!

  14. Dear Sherri and family, so sorry for the loss of Mickey. He truly was one of the good guys, never heard him say a bad word to anyone. What a good friend. May he rest in peace.

  15. Our sympathy to you Sherri & family. I always enjoyed our visits when you used to come for haircuts!!!!

  16. Dear Tony,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear father. I am so sorry about your loss.

Although I never met your father, I know how much he meant to you. Through your stories of his frugality, his love of nature, and his loving support of you, I feel as though I knew him. I know he was a fine man and that his absence will be felt by many people.

I would enjoy hearing more about your father and his life if you would like to share memories when we get together. In the meantime, I will be thinking of you and your family.

    With deep sympathy,
