Maxine A. Gorman, age 88 of New Hampton, IA, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at Holy Family Parish, New Hampton with Rev. Mark Osterhaus celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers; Tony Reiling, Tim Reiling, Nick Reiling, Brad Gorman, Jonathan Gorman and Jason Gorman. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday. Hugeback-Johnnson Funeral Home, New Hampton is in charge of arrangements. Maxine Amy Gorman was born November 24, 1926, in Watertown, SD, the daughter of Elmer and Helgina (Loftsgard) Nelson. She received her education in Elgin, IA, graduating from high school there in 1942. On June 20, 1946, in West Union, IA, she married Alvin Gorman. To this union four children were born. The couple later divorced. Maxine worked several years as a secretary for Interstate Power in West Union and the couple later moved to New Hampton where Maxine worked at Mercy Medical Center from 1976 until retiring in 1992. Maxine enjoyed her dogs, flowers and gardening but mostly loved the time she could spend with her grandchildren. In her later years she enjoyed the bus trips around the country. Survivors include three sons, Robert (Carol) Gorman of New Hampton, Dennis Gorman of Cedar Rapids, Dave Gorman of New Hampton; one daughter, Sandra Reiling of Pine Island, MN; six grandchildren, Tony, Tim and Nick Reiling, Brad Gorman, Jonathan and Jason Gorman; one great granddaughter, Grace Reiling. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Calvin Nelson.

  2. I as saddened to hear of the passing of your mother and my aunt Maxine. I have many happy memories of her and your dad visiting us on the farm when we lived at Fayette in the early 50’s.
