Born on January 26, 1942, in the charming town of Waverly, Iowa to Ralph and Clara (Hundley) Stafford, Marguerite’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and joyous spirit.

Completing her education through the 10th grade in her hometown.  She met Milton Gaede at a party his sister hosted one night, and let’s say this about Milton, he was definitely persistent. Marguerite finally said yes to a date, and the rest is history as the couple was married on March 14, 1959, beginning a marriage that lasted for almost 64 years. The couple had six children — Pam, Jack, Kimberly, Connie, Leslie, and Vickie.  Marguerite embraced the role that would define her life’s work: a devoted stay-at-home mother and wife. Her warmth and nurturing nature were the cornerstones of her family’s happiness. Later, she further extended her caring touch to the community as a beloved cook at the Bradford House in Nashua, where her culinary talents were appreciated by many.

Marguerite’s love for her family was unparalleled, and she was a pillar of strength and support for her husband at all his horse races. Her presence at the track was as much a part of the event as the races themselves. Her interests, however, extended far beyond the excitement of the racetrack. Marguerite was an avid gardener, finding peace and solace in the beauty of nature. Her garden was a vibrant tapestry of color that reflected her love for life.

A collector at heart, Marguerite treasured her angel figurines, each one symbolizing the protection and love she so freely gave to others. Dancing was another joy in her life, and she could often be found gliding across the dance floor with a grace that belied her years. Travel held a special place in her heart, and she reveled in the discovery of new places, whether they were near the horse track or far-flung destinations.

Family gatherings were a highlight for Marguerite, who was an amazing cook. Her culinary creations were the centerpiece of many joyous celebrations, and her recipes will be cherished and passed down for generations. The love and laughter shared during those big family get-togethers are treasured memories that will endure.

Marguerite is survived by her five children: Pam (Randy) Russell of Waverly, Jack (Jayne) Gaede of Plainfield, Connie (Todd) Billman of Waverly, Leslie Gaede of Plainfield and Vickie Gaede of Nashua; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; special sister Annette Petersen; special friends: Mary Kay Aschbrenner and Caroline Henninger; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Clara (Hundley) Stafford; husband Milton Gaede; daughter Kimberly Tripp; brothers Carl (Maxine) Stafford and Harold Stafford; and sister Irene (Alfred) Ohlendorf.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with the Gaede family, loved ones and friends. I remember Milton and his family from the Nebraska Thoroughbred Racing Circuit.
Milton and Margie are reunited in heaven, dancing away. May her memory be eternal and the Lord give you all comfort for the many days to come. 🙏 🕊 🌹

  2. Boy I was so shocked when I heard Marge passed. I am so glad we got to see her at the Reunion! Thanks Jack and Jane for bringing her. I Rembert doing things with Marge when I was 9 or 10 years old. New her for a long time. (She was my second cousin) One day I think I was 15 and Milton had a horse race over East and Marge couldn’t go with him as she had a couple of the kids by then. So Donna, Betty Ann and I went along. Milton needed to sleep on his way back as he had to work that night. Us girls helped with the horse after the race and before it, I was cooling him down and got to close to a vender that did French fries and when they hit the grease that horse almost went over me! Boy did I get a scare. We finely got things done, Milton left the horse at the race track. So Betty Ann was going to drive us home so Milton could seep and then go to work. Well Betty Ann was not to good with driving on a main highway, I finely told her to pull over and I would drive! We wouldn’t be home for Milton to go to work at 40 miles a hour. I didn’t have my licenses and knew I didn’t want to get picked up either. Anyway I was very careful and drove right at the speed limit, made sure I signaled and drove as good as I could, we made it back to Waverly and got Milton home so he could spend a little time with Marge and the kids. When we woke him up when we hit Waverly he said; Pat what are you doing driving? He never woke when we stopped and changed drivers. He was tired 😴 I said we wouldn’t have got you home in time if I had let Betty drive. He said thanks and I am not sure what us girls did. If we stayed for a while or went to Iren’s and I stayed there that night! I Loved them all. My Dad had part interest in one of the race horses with them and went to a lot of the races in later years. I am glad that all of them are back together again! Wish I was with them!

  3. Margie will forever be in my heart She had the sweetest soul and she always treated me as if I was one of her own children. I remember her always doing whatever to please, the family get togethers and the cards were always found memories. I wish things would have turned out different for certain things so I would have got to know her even better but so thankful the Lord brought her into my life. Rest in Peace Margie Love Keith
