Marcia Marie (Klimesh) Knutson was born on February 19th, 1959, in New Hampton, Iowa and was the fifth child of Elmer and Martha (Woldan) Klimesh. She grew up in Spillville, Iowa and was a carefree child who loved the outdoors, whether it was growing flowers, picking ginseng or occasionally hunting squirrels.
Marcia attended St. Wenceslaus School through 6th grade and then went on to attend South Winneshiek Community Schools. She graduated in the top 10 of her high school class. Upon graduating high school, she pursued nursing at Northeast Iowa Community College (1979) and started working at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton. While working, she intermittently pursued her bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University (1985) and later a master’s degree from Winonna State University (2000). She was a hard worker whose healthcare career spanned 35 years, where she made a difference in countless people’s lives. In 2011, she was recognized as one of the top 100 nurses in Iowa.
Marcia married her husband, Norman Knutson, on October 11th, 1980. Together, they raised two wonderful boys, Mitchell and Dan. Marcia’s faith was important to her, and she was an active member of Holy Family Parish in New Hampton. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, baking pies, spending time with friends and family, attending concerts, traveling and going to St. Louis Cardinals’ games. Family and friends loved her intelligence, humor, and infectious laugh.
She is survived by her husband: Norman Knutson; sons: Dan Knutson and Mitchell (Joey) Knutson; brothers: Wenceslaus (Christa) Klimesh, and Gerald (Mary) Klimesh; 10 nieces and nephews; and in-laws: Alice and Tom Rasing, John and Cindy Knutson, Ann and Gary Johnson, Doug and Laura Alitz, and Laurie Gebel.

When I think of Marcia, I think back of when we came out of nursing school and started working on the floor at St. Joseph Community Hospital.
She was a great nurse!
We would talk about our Heritages. She was proud to be Bohemian and eating kolaches! She would then chuckle!
She liked to banter back and forth!🪽
Peace to all!

Deepest Sympathy to the family. I worked with Marcia at the hospital. I was a nurses aide while she was a RN. I’ll never forget her in her white uniform and that ponytail whipping down the halls. She was a good person and will be missed🙏✝️

We express our sadness to Norman and family. Marcia was one of kind person and will always remember by her sense humor and solving health problems of all types. We went nursing school and worked together in healthcare for as long as I can remember. I will cherish those memories always.
Sorry to hear of Marcia’s passing. She was a great nurse and will be greatly missed. Our prayers and sympathy to the entire family.
We are heartbroken to hear of Marcia’s passing away from this life, but I know she was a person of deep faith and I’m sure she is singing and dancing praising the Lord in Heaven. She was a great sweet friend and we shared so much over the decades that she was part of our Mothers Offering Moral Support (MOMS) group…from the time Mitchell and Dan were little where we exchanged ideas on child rearing all the way through present as they became adults. She was so very proud of you kids and loved you and Norm so very much! She loved sharing about the wonderful trips you took together, Norm. I loved her laughter, her stories, her enthusiasm rooting for her team the St. Louis Cardinals, and her delicious desserts she made, especially her strawberry pie! She was such a smart caring talented person and always helped us out when we had medical questions. She was creative and good at making crafts and took the time to show me how to make a Christmas decorative porch pot, which I’m going to be thinking of her every year that I make one. She was a beautiful person inside and out. We will certainly miss her! Please know that many caring thoughts are with you during this time of sorrow. May Marcia forever live in your hearts and may your fond memories give you peace and comfort. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
