Jeanie was born on May 20, 1931, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Gertrude (Westover) Marion. She was the second oldest of four children and grew up alongside her sisters Patricia, Donna, and Shirley.

In May of 1952, Jeanie married Jack McGowan in Junction City, Kansas. The couple made their home first in Mason City, Iowa, and later in Glendale, California. Their marriage was blessed with three sons: Michael, born September 10, 1952; Patrick, born April 30, 1954; and Terry, born May 28, 1955. Jack passed away at a young age, leaving Jeanie widowed in 1958.

While raising her children, Jeanie worked as a secretary, and after her sons were grown, she moved to California, where she worked as an office manager for her sister Donna at an apartment complex in Glendale. In 2001, Jeanie returned to Mason City and later moved to Charles City when she required additional care.

Jeanie enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and playing bridge with friends. She had a love for traveling, dancing, and playing the penny slots. The ocean always brought her peace, and she especially cherished time spent visiting lighthouses along the coast.

She is survived by her granddaughters Courtney Maskarina and Raechel Boecker; nine great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack McGowan; her sons Michael, Patrick, and Terry McGowan; her parents Raymond and Gertrude Marion; her sisters Donna Kaeser and Shirley Sluga; and her grandsons Robert McGowan and Michael McGowan.
