Jason Michael Adams

January 23, 1976 ~ September 21, 2025
Jason Michael (Jay) Adams, age 49, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away in his home on Sunday, September 21, 2025, due to liver and kidney failure.
Jay was born on January 23, 1976, in Montclair, California, the second of three children born to Robert and Gail (Poynton) Adams. His early years were spent in the Los Angeles area until his family moved to the suburbs of Chicago in 1987. Jay was a proud graduate of Batavia High School, where he was a powerful and dedicated opponent on the Varsity Tennis Team. After graduating in 1994, he pursued his passion for technology, earning both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from Western Illinois University.
After college, Jay moved to the Iowa City area and began his career at Pearson Education as a software developer. He soon found his professional calling as a Database Administrator (DBA), a role he maintained for the remainder of his career. While residing in Coralville, he met Michelle (Shellie) Kobliska, the mother of his three children. They married on February 26, 2003, and established their home in the Cedar Rapids/Marion area. They later divorced in 2023 after an extensive separation.
An avid and lifelong LA Dodger fan, Jay channeled his love of baseball into his community, spending many years coaching Little League. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his outgoing personality, and the genuine enthusiasm he brought to the baseball field.
Sadly, Jay’s life was cut short due to a prolonged struggle with alcohol abuse. He made several attempts over the years to get healthy and sober, but ultimately, the addiction was too powerful to overcome. His family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
Jay is survived by his former wife, Michelle Kobliska, and their three children: Spencer Adams, Elliott Adams, and Oliver Adams, all of New Hampton; his father, Robert Adams (Joann Zehrung) of Las Vegas, NV; his siblings: Scott (Kristen) Adams of Manchester, England, and Christina (Ryan) Nottingham of Springfield, Illinois; and three nephews: Nathan Adams, Ben Nottingham, and Will Nottingham.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gail Adams, and his grandparents: Jim and Shirley Hampton, Edna Adams, and Marion Adams.
A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date (late spring – early summer of 2026) to ensure his son Elliott, who is currently deployed overseas, can attend.
Michelle and Oliver, I’m so sorry to hear of your husband/ dad passing away. Thinking of you all and sending hugs!
