Born on November 3, 1944, in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Robert and Leola (Vanhorn) Bond, Eric was a man whose life was defined by adventure, intelligence, and a remarkable aptitude for working with his hands.
Eric’s journey through life was one marked by dedication and love. He met the love of his life, Rita Ingalls, at a quaint restaurant, and the two were inseparable from that moment on. They exchanged vows in Illinois on September 23, 1964, and together they built a life filled with joy and mutual respect.
Shortly after marrying, Eric proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968. Stationed at Hockbocerne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio, he excelled as an aircraft crew chief and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. His military service was a period of his life that instilled in him a sense of discipline and camaraderie that he carried with him always.
Following his service, Eric cultivated a successful 35-year career as a farmer in Nashua, Iowa. His deep connection to the land and his innovative farming techniques earned him the respect of his peers and the admiration of the community. From 2003 to 2007, Eric channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into a new venture as a business owner, further demonstrating his versatile talents and unwavering work ethic.
Eric’s interests extended beyond his professional endeavors. He had a lifelong passion for stock cars and horses, finding a particular thrill in the excitement of chuck wagon races. His adventurous spirit was equally matched by his intelligence, as he was always keen to learn more about the things that fascinated him.
Those who knew Eric will remember him as a man who was not only handy and capable of fixing almost anything but also as someone who brought warmth and light into the lives of others. His adventurous nature often led him to explore new horizons, while his intelligence ensured that he was respected as a man of substance.
Eric is survived by his wife Rita (Ingalls) Bond of Nashua; sons: Kurt (Krist) Bond of Plainfield, Kris (Cindy) Bond of Cedar Falls, and Robert (Emily) Bond of Nashua; brother Bob (Joann) Bond of North Carolina; sisters: Eleanor (Allan) Hanford of MA, Elizabeth Kay Van Hoorhees of PA, Jacquelin (Paul) Wadsworth of VA, and Jessica (Greg) Boyajian of FL; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
