Arlie Emil Fred Stange, age 81 of Lawler, Iowa died Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Linn Haven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 13, 2019, at St. John's Stapleton Lutheran Church in rural Waucoma, Iowa with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Organist for the service will be Meghan Meyer with Heather Maurer as vocalist.
Interment will be in St. John's Stapleton Cemetery with Chad Stange, Todd Stange, Wade Stange, Cory Rochford, Gordon Davis, Kurt Hartmann and Brandon Petersen serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Benz, Chris Zmoos, Harvey Drewelow, William Maurer, Jason Woodring, Duane Wurzer, Richard Johnson, Wendell Tank, Jim Langreck and Mark Langreck.
Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Arlie Emil Fred Stange was born June 9, 1937, on the Stange Family Farm, in rural Waucoma, IA. He was the oldest of four children born to Emil and Margaret (Mahler) Stange. He initially received his education in rural country school and was a 1957 graduate of the Waucoma High School. He met the love of his life and on June 17, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church – Boyd, he married Ellen Louise Hartmann. To this union a daughter, Sue Ellen was born. In the early 80’s the couple purchased their current farm just south of Lawler, where they both had lived until their passing. Ellen Stange died on February 18, 2017, at the age of 79.
Arlie was a life long member of St. John's Stapleton Lutheran Church where he had served in many capacities. He had been a deacon on the church council and a cemetery board member for many years. Arlie loved time outdoors, whether working, hunting, fishing or trapping. He kept a daily check on all his farm animals and loved to attend his grandaughter’s FFA events. Arlie also enjoyed getting into a heated game of Euchre or 500. Arlie loved Farmall and IH tractors and had a large collection of their scale models. He will be deeply missed by his family and numerous friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Ellen Lechtenberg of New Hampton; three granddaughters including Clarissa Lechtenberg; three great-grandsons; one sister, Helen (Albert) Hartmann of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Fred (Jo) Stange of Alpha, IA, Larry (Rhonda) Stange of Waucoma, IA; numerous nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; nieces, Shelly Stange in 1980 and LaVonne Kobliska in 1991; sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Wendell) Gordon and Lucile (Eugene) Davis; his in-law’s, Jacob and Florence Hartmann.

So sorry Sue Ellen to hear about your Dad. Know that he is with your Mom now and not struggling being alone anymore.(Since he never really learned to cook). You were always there for him and know that he appreciated it. Praying for you and your girls that you will keep his memories alive by talking about him and telling stories about him. And, Clarissa, know that the time you spent with your Grandpa was special to him. Hugs to you all.
