Ralph Blair Adams was born December 16, 1954, near Tacoma, WA, the son of Howard and Charlotte (Oler) Adams. He received most of his education in Big Fork, MN and then the family moved to Waucoma, IA, where he graduated from the Turkey Valley High School in 1973. He married Alice Schaufenbuel and to this union two daughters were born; Amy and Carrie. The couple later divorced. Ralph had many jobs but was most proud of owning his own landscaping business called Adams Lawncare and Landscaping. On February 23, 1986, in Waverly, IA, he married Kathy Northrop. The couple enjoyed many years together until her passing from brain cancer on March 26, 2007. Ralph was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed woodworking, making things for his girls and their families.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy Adams (Ben Hanson) of St. Lucas, IA, Carrie Leff of Cresco; six grandchildren, Lucas, Ava and Ezra Hanson, Dillon, Aidan and Ethan Leff; three brothers, Jeff (Jody) Adams of Aurora, MN, Robert (Theresa) Adams of South Carolina, Gary Adams of New Hampton; three sisters, Susan Adams of South Carolina, Kathleen Snyder of Alpha, Pamela Ramfry of Charles City; sister-in-law, Cheryl Adams of Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathy; one brother, Russell Adams; one brother-in-law, Daryl Snyder.
My heartfelt condolence to the Family. I am so sorry for your loss. There are few experiences more difficult than losing a loved one in death. As you cherish the many memories of Ralph, please reflect on the time when sickness…, death… and mourning will be no more. (Revelations 21:3,4) This is what our loving God Jehovah has promised and Jesus himself guaranteed the hope of seeing our loved ones again by means of the resurrection. (John 5:28,29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 26:19) May God’s word bring you comfort during this difficult time and in the days ahead as we await the fulfillment of his promises
I’ll always remember the day Ralph hauled a load of dirt to my yard in order to fill in the low spots. He peered into the ditch and said the only good thing I’ve ever heard regarding Creeping Charlie: “Well, at least it keeps the dirt from washing away.” I don’t know if that’s so or not, but I often think of it when I’m mowing the darn thing. My sympathy to the family. Ralph may have been quiet, but he sure knew how to make a lasting impression.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
