Patricia Scroggins

Patricia Lee Scroggins age 90, of Fredericksburg, IA died Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, IA. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Peace United Church of Christ Church in Fredericksburg, IA with Rev. Marilyn Sargent and Rev. Jim Reid presiding. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg with Jeremy Scroggins, Boe Scroggins, Gary Gienau, Jeremy King, Derek Baker, Sidney Scroggins and Jacob Scroggins serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan King, Cynthia Miller, Melissa Higgins, Nicole Seaborn, Iva Scroggins, Heather Hoeper, Amanda Heasley, Matt Scroggins and Samantha Baker. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Patricia Lee Scroggins was born February 21, 1928, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Gerald and Eva (Burbank) Rourke. She attended school in Waterloo and graduated from Waterloo East High School. While in school in Waterloo she met the love of her life, Albert Scroggins. The couple was married on June 5, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in Williamstown, IA. To this union, five children were born. Pat worked at Meinerz Creamery, Beatrice and Conagra all around Fredericksburg. Before moving to the Fredericksburg area, she also worked at St. Francis Hospital in Waterloo as a nurse’s aide. Her grandchildren were everything to her. She loved babysitting for them and helping them in any way that she could. In her later years, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren raise their children, her great-grandchildren. She was very active in her community as she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, was a member of the Moose Lodge, led a bible study group and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, quilting and taking fun vacations with her friends. Her kind soul and loving nature will be deeply missed by many. Pat is survived by five children, Chuck (Ann) Scroggins of New Hampton, IA, Deb (Jim) Steimel of Waterloo, IA, Alyn (Jolen) Scroggins of Remas, MI, Bernard (Janet) Scroggins of Fayette, IA, Eugene (Becky) Scroggins of McGregor, IA; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2000; four grandchildren, Simon Scroggins, Rusty Scroggins, Daniel Miller, Virginia Miller; one sister, Geraldine Rourke.
