Lorna Ann was born in Charles City, Iowa, on October 12, 1960, to Earl and Lorna Mae (Leitz) Haeflinger from Alta Vista. She attended the Special Education Program through the New Hampton School District and later the Day Habilitation Program through Comprehensive Systems at the Work Activity Center in Elma and then in New Hampton and Charles City.

Lorna resided with her parents on their farm in rural Alta Vista and moved with them upon their retirement to Elma. She was instrumental in helping her parents maintain their home together prior to her mother’s death in 2011. Lorna enjoyed participating in Special Olympics (softball throw), playing board and card games, bowling, listening to music, especially Kenny Rogers and Justin Bieber, and dancing with family and friends. Lorna also enjoyed coloring and greeting card stamping. Lorna will be remembered for her sense of humor and her upbeat personality, evident by her contagious smile.

Lorna is survived by her sister, JoAnn Ridgway; brothers, Roger (Hattie) Haeflinger, Jim (Beverly) Haeflinger, John (Sharon) Haeflinger, Earl (Julie) Haeflinger, and Rick (Jane) Haeflinger, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lorna Mae Haeflinger, brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Ridgway, and great-niece, Kayla Gilbert.

Family is appreciative of the love and care provided to Lorna Ann through the years by family, friends, and caretakers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Lorna Ann’s name to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma, Iowa, or Comprehensive Systems.

  1. Dear Lorna family

    She will be deeply missed.
I 🎳 with her while she was on the special Olympics 🎳 team for comp system. She was a good bowler.

  2. Extending my sympathies to Lorna’s family. I’m sure her ‘bestie’ Donna was there to greet her with open arms as she entered her eternal resting home. May she rest in peace.
