Susan Marie Peters (née Fliger), age 72, of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Susan was born on June 21, 1953, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Russell and Clydene (Weaklen) Fliger. She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Peters, and together they began their life of service in the United States Army.

They spent over two decades traveling the world and building a family together. Susan was a devoted mother to her son, Jeff, and she created a warm, welcoming home wherever the family was stationed.

Following military service, the family settled in Wisconsin, where Susan built a distinguished career at the Tomah Veterans Administration Hospital. During her tenure, she served as Human Resources Coordinator, overseeing more than 1,000 employees, and concluded her career as Executive Officer to the Chief Medical Officer.

In retirement, Susan enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including traveling, reading, time spent on and around the water, and creating jewelry and crafts of all kinds. She and Dennis wintered in Gulf Shores, Alabama, traveled to numerous national parks and presidential libraries, and fulfilled lifelong dreams of visiting China and Alaska.

Recently, Susan and Dennis moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her grandson, Collin, whose life was one of her greatest joys and a constant source of pride, love, and light. Throughout her life, Susan had a deep love for animals and a genuine care for others. She found joy in the beauty of nature and in the simple, meaningful moments of life. Above all, she will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, and unwavering devotion to the well-being of those around her.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Peters; her son, Jeffrey Peters (Carlie); and her grandson, Collin. She is also survived by her cousins, Andy and Dan Fliger; many extended family members; and her aunt, Enola Fliger of Everett, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Clydene Fliger; her brothers, Ricky and William Fliger; and her grandparents, Louis and Nellie Fliger and Lavona and Carl Maxson.

Visitation will be held May 15 at 10 AM followed by a memorial service at 11 AM with a luncheon following. All events will be held at Simonet Funeral Home, located at 6429 Osgood Ave N, Stillwater, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the local Humane Society in your area.
