Marlyn was born on November 2, 1941, in Hampton, Iowa to Carl and Grace (Swinger) Nymeyer. He was raised in rural Ackley, graduated from Ackley High School in 1959, and attended Central College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in natural science. After college he became a foreman in road construction in Minnesota. His interest and love for agriculture led him back to Ackley to run the family farm in 1967. He found great joy in the solitude of farm life.
He was united in marriage to Helen Ann Pfeifer. To this unity they welcomed two children, Laurie and Brian. Later they divorced, but continued to have a friendship over the years.
In addition to farming, Marlyn worked for Iowa Prestressed Concrete and the Austinville Elevator until his retirement. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie and bantering that took place with his fellow coworkers.
He had considerable enthusiasm for sports, both as a player and a fan. He took great pride in having played college football at Central College, and was a dedicated Minnesota Vikings fan.
Above all, his greatest blessings were his grandchildren. He was a proud grandpa and cherished the moments spent together, supporting them in their activities and sporting events. His competitive spirit often found him joining in during back yard games, even if it resulted in a bump or a bruise.
Marlyn is survived by his daughter Laurie (Bill) Davis of Atlanta, GA; son Brian (Carletta) Nymeyer of Fort Atkinson; brother Stanley (Sonja) Nymeyer of Center City, MN; grandchildren: Nicholas Kratz, Sadie Nymeyer, and Eli Nymeyer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Grace (Swinger) Nymeyer; and brother Charles Nymeyer.
The family would like to thank the Ossian Care Center staff for the exceptional care and compassion they provided for Marlyn.
