As written by Janice:
I was born July 28, 1927 in Saude, lowa, to Anton and Sigrid (Jerdee) Sanderson. I attended school in Saude until we moved to New Hampton, when I was in third grade. While in high school, I worked at Pink’s Pantry, located across the street from the elementary school. I also worked at Thorson’s Sweet Shop. After graduation in 1946, I went to Chicago, Illinois and worked at Sears, while living with my sister and brother-in-law.
I eventually returned to New Hampton and worked at Key Overall factory until it closed. I then worked as a secretary at Sheakley and Kennedy Department store.
I married Robert W. Ohm in 1950 and had three children: two daughters, Yvonne and Debra, and one son, Thomas. I later divorced in 1976.
When my children were grown, I worked for Murphy Abstractor as a typist and then went to work at the Chickasaw County Courthouse as a typist in the Clerk’s office and was also the Court Attendant. In 1994, I retired after approximately thirteen years of service.
I was a Cub Scout leader and Sunday School teacher. I was a Jayceette. I was the Trinity Lutheran Church Treasurer for three years and a member of the Elizabeth Circle for many years. I joined “Marge’s” Bible study as a Charter member. I was also a member of the Senior Choral Choir and the Prayer Chain.
My daughter, Yvonne, took me on a wonderful trip to Norway and London. A friend, Arlene Vikdal, and I took a trip to Hawaii.
I enjoyed reading, oil painting, puzzles, and playing cards, but my favorite thing to do was visiting with my family, friends, and grandchildren.
My daughter, Debra and son-in-law, William Hansen, live in New Hampton. My daughter, Yvonne, and son-in-law, Randy Durr, live in Omaha, NE. My son, Thomas Ohm, and daughter-in-law, Kristi, live in Lincoln, NE. I loved visiting them and my grandchildren, Heather and Greg Rice in Jenks, Oklahoma, and Bryan and Ashley Kehler and Joshua and Ally Kehler in Lincoln, NE, and Pat and Stephanie Boyle in Lincoln, NE. I also enjoy spending time with my four great-grandchildren: Avah, Calvin, Camryn, and Alivia.
I was preceded in death by my father and mother, Anton and Sigrid Sanderson, and my brothers, Richard, Carmen, Allan, and Kenneth Sanderson and my sister Arlene Kanellis.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton.
