Myrna Lou Boggess, a beacon of warmth and generosity, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, in Elmore, Minnesota, at the age of 76. Born on November 14, 1947, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Eleanor (Bally) Boggess. Myrna’s life was characterized by her infectious enthusiasm, her dedication to her community, and the love she so freely gave to her family and the many lives she touched.
Myrna’s early education took place in Alta Vista, where she completed her elementary and middle school years before graduating from New Hampton High School in 1966. From there, she embarked on a distinguished career with the State of Iowa Social Services, where her compassion and leadership earned her a supervisory role. Myrna devoted 36 years of service to the state, advocating for those in need and effecting positive change in countless lives.
Myrna settled in the Mason City area, where she lived for over three decades. Her home was a haven not just for her family and friends but also for the many stray cats and dogs she rescued over the years. Myrna’s love for animals was just one aspect of her nurturing spirit.
An avid reader, Myrna found joy and solace in the pages of mystery novels. She cherished the suspense and intrigue of each story, often sharing her latest read with those around her. Her hands were rarely idle, as she was also an accomplished knitter and crocheter. The beautiful pieces she created were not just crafts but tokens of her love, which she generously gifted to family and friends.
Myrna’s philanthropy extended far beyond her immediate circle. She was known for her charitable heart, supporting many worthy organizations throughout her life. Her contributions made a significant impact, and her legacy of giving continues to inspire those who knew her.
Her presence radiated happiness and an eagerness to savor every moment. Myrna’s “happy-go-lucky” nature was contagious, and she had an uncanny ability to find joy in the simplest of pleasures. She brought light and laughter to every gathering, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Myrna is survived by her loving siblings: James Boggess of Britt, IA; William Boggess and his wife Annie of Sioux Falls, SD; Marilyn Boggess of Sioux Falls, SD; Nancy Hamson of Iowa Falls, IA; Kathy Boggess of Rapid City, SD; and Patty Boggess of Albert Lea, MN; along with many loving nieces & nephews, and great-nieces & nephews. Each of them carries forward the memory of her vibrant spirit and the unconditional love she bestowed upon them.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sending prayers to her family. Jeanne(Geerts) Roder
