Marlys M. Schwickerath age 85 of New Hampton died Friday, September 2, 2016, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. The organist is Ann Bennett accompanying the Immaculate Conception Men's Choir in song. Lector for the service will be Patrice Schilling. Presenting the offertory gifts will be Toni Schwickerath, Jenny Schwickerath, Darcy Lechtenberg and Jessica Lechtenberg. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Washington with Brad Schwickerath, Brent Schwickerath, Derek Lechtenberg, Dustin Lechtenberg, Darcy Lechtenberg, Jenny Schwickerath, Toni Schwickerath and Jessica Lechtenberg as pallbearers. Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and 7:30 p.m. Parish Scripture Service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday. Marlys Mary Schwickerath was born November 29, 1930, in New Hampton, IA, the daughter of Edward and Frances (Swehla) Hentges. She received her education at St. Mary’s School in North Washington and graduated high school there in 1948. On April 19, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Washington she married Robert Carl Schwickerath. To this union three children were born. The couple farmed northwest of North Washington on the Hentges Family Farm until retiring in 1988. The couple moved into New Hampton in 1992. Marlys was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church where she served as a lector and in the Rosary Society. Robert and Marlys enjoyed dancing, fishing, playing cards, visiting with their friends and neighbors, but she especially loved time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marlys is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert; one son, Lynn (Linda) Schwickerath of New Hampton; two daughters, LuAnn (Dale) Lechtenberg of New Hampton and Lynette (Randy) Mahowald of Burnsville, MN; five grandchildren, Brad (Toni) Schwickerath, Brent (Jenny) Schwickerath, Derek Lechtenberg, Dustin (Jessica) Lechtenberg, all of New Hampton, Darcy (Casey Stika) Lechtenberg of La Porte City, IA; six great-grandchildren, Jake Schwickerath, Cora Schwickerath, Jamie Jo Schwickerath, Mia Schwickerath, Ada Schwickerath and Levi Lechtenberg; brothers-in-law, Cletus (Eleanor) Schwickerath and Herb Carpenter, all of New Hampton; sister-in-law, Bernice Felder of New Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Modesta Hentges; brother, Michael E. Hentges in infancy, granddaughter, Angela Ann Lechtenberg and a great-grandson, Anthony Robert Schwickerath; sisters-in-law, Alice Carpenter and Joanna (Elmer) Geerts; brother-in-law, Ray Felder.

She is one of my family’s dearest and oldest family friends and our childhood memories still bring a smile, a tear, a chuckle….the Lord has brought an angel home and she will be watching over you! You so lovingly took care of her and your devotion is a tribute to how much she was loved and will be missed. There is a card game going on in heaven and bologna sandwiches will be served promptly at midnight on Friday night!
