Tod Alan Palmer age 48 of Fredericksburg, Iowa formerly of New Hampton died Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg, with Pastor Ronnie Koch presiding.Janiece Kramer will be the organist leading the congregation in 'Amazing Grace' and 'How Great Thou Art'. 'God Be With You Until We Meet Again' will be sung by Brent Osborne. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Steve Koleno, Paul Brandenburg, Jerry Meiergerd, Dave Gorman, Brett Ohm and Rod Rodemaker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Speicher, Brian Westendorf, Nick Palmer, Tim Palmer, Bryan Palmer, Mike Olson, Jeff Olson, Brian Carberry, Brad Carberry, Bruce Carberry, Tracy Trevethan, Tammy Richards, Kari Osborne, and Ashley Sanders. Friends may greet the family 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Tod Alan Palmer was born August 11, 1964, in Waterloo, IA, the only son of Myron and Linda (Kautz) Palmer. He received part of his elementary education in Waterloo and in 1973, the family moved to New Hampton where he became a 1982 New Hampton High School graduate. After graduation, Tod attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo to become a diesel mechanic and truck driver. He was then employed by the Elk Run Truck Plaza for many years. On September 21, 1996, at Peace United Church of Christ in Fredericksburg, he married Dena Speicher. To this union, their son Zachary was born. Tod worked as a welder at Dura Automotive in West Union and later for Omega Cabinets. He also trained and became a certified EMT, working for the Chickasaw Ambulance Service. Tod was attending school for nursing when he was diagnosed with cancer on February 11, 2011. He battled and survived his first bout with cancer. His second bout with cancer lasted only the last 5 days of his life. He valiantly fought to stay with his family, but succumbed to Leukemia. Tod loved motorcycling, shooting his guns with his son, and working on his 1936 John Deere B Tractor. He followed the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and the Wisconsin Badgers. Tod enjoyed being Cubmaster of the Fredericksburg Cub Scout Pack #83 for 5 years. He also was a member of the Fredericksburg Antique Tractor Club. Tod will be remembered as a man who made many friends and treasured his precious time with his family. Tod is survived by his wife, Dena; one son, Zachary at home; his parents, Myron and Linda Palmer of New Hampton; one sister, Dawn (Rod) Rodemaker of Osage; his in-laws; Dean and Judy Speicher of Fredericksburg; brother-in-law, Jay (Tonya) Speicher of Fredericksburg, sister-in-law, Susan Collins of Waterloo; niece, Mercedez Speicher of Fredericksburg; nephews, Hunter Rodemaker of Osage, Zaine Speicher of Fredericksburg and Zade Collins of Waterloo; his aunts, Karen (Bob) Olson of Belle Vista, AR, Nancy Carberry of Chaska, MN and Billie Jo Tonn of Independence; uncles, Donald (Jane) Palmer of Hazleton, IA and Russell (Sue) Palmer of Independence. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ada Kautz; paternal grandparents, Melvin and Edna Palmer; uncles, Arnold Palmer, Larry Carberry and Rich Tonn; one cousin, Kristen Palmer.

  10. To My Cousin Tod I am so glad we got to be close the last several yearsyou Dena and Zach coming to all the kids games and the gt together lunches we had. I want to Thank you for the times you let me help you get ready for your EMT you didnt need it you knew the stuff better than i did (LOL). You will be greatly missed I will miss the Weather spotting classes we would go to and the EMS training that we got to do. Most of all i willl miss the times we would just shoot the breeze and laugh. Teaching Zac to be patriotic while having fun as an all-American family. Oh, yes, the day the partridge strolled across the porch! The ball games and school programs.   20. Not everyone knows this but Tod and I watched Top Gun so many times that we would say the words before they happened. I no longer have one of by Best Friends to say That’s right Iceman or you know the finger, I know the finger Goose. I will miss him walking into the shop in Fredericksburg, driving around and just talking about life in general. He will be missed but I know he’s in a better place. Loved you like a Brother.
