Duane Pagel

Duane L. Pagel age 83 of Nashua, IA died Friday, March 31, 2017, at Linn Haven Rehab & Healthcare in New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua with Pastor Bill Nielsen presiding.
Interment will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua with Russ Schmidt, Jim Peters, Randy Strabula, Bruce Bruns, Bruce Becker, and Dan Zwanziger serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are John Ross, Howard Schluter, and Arnie Boge.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Duane Lavern Pagel was born February 11, 1934, in Shell Rock, IA, the son of Carl and Anna (Jurgens) Pagel. Duane graduated from Plainfield High School in 1953. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served from 1955 - 1957 in Yokohama Japan. Upon returning home, he met Janet Oleson on a blind date. The couple were married April 10, 1960, at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua. To this union one daughter, Julie was born.
Duane started his career working at the Nashua Equity where he spent 25 years with the company from 1960 - 1985. Duane was then employed by the Nashua Town and Country Club working as the head groundskeeper for 5 years. He then worked for the City of Nashua as the groundskeeper of the city's park system until retiring in 2006.
Duane enjoyed gardening, square dancing for 30 years, and woodworking. He was a member of the Nashua VFW, spent time as the president of the church council and the square dance club, and ushered at St. John Lutheran Church where he was an active member.
Duane is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet of Nashua, IA; daughter, Julie (Gregory) Drewes of Waverly, IA; two grandsons, Sean and Daniel Drewes of Waverly, IA; two brothers, Joe (Kay) Pagel of Waverly, IA, Richard (Jeanette) Pagel of Plainfield, IA; two sisters, Myrna (Leonard) Klunder of Maquokata, IA, Judy (Orville) Van Raden of Hampton, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
