Bruce Erwin Qualley was born April 25, 1951, in New Hampton, IA, the son of Harlan and Anna Mae (Halvorson) Qualley. He received his education in New Hampton and graduated from the New Hampton High School in 1969. On August 16, 1969, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia, he married Rose Deutsch. To this union four children were born; Angie, Amanda, Christa and Ben. Ben passed away on February 3, 1993 from bone cancer. The couple later divorced.
Bruce drove truck for Qualley Produce for many years and also worked at Qualley Feed and Grain until retiring in 2013. He was a farmer at heart and had been doing so since he was a young man. He also enjoyed going to the casino, fishing in Michigan and playing Euchre at Jerico Jo’s. Horses were a large part of family life with Bruce and a great trail ride was heaven on earth. He had a saying to his friends and family 'It's just a ride,' and he had a good one. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

I just learned of Bruce’s passing and it saddens me that I was not there to pay my respects. Bruce was a kind generous man with a heart as big as Texas! His laughter will be missed by many. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Trudi Wilson
Sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing – I have a lot of good memories hauling grain to the mill and it seemed Bruce was always there to help, same as Susie and Anna Mae. No matter when or where, he was always willing to lend a hand. He was a good dude! Sorry for your loss.
My deepest sympathy to all of Bruce’s family. My heart goes out to you as he will always hold a special place in mine. We had been friends since high school and have many fond memories of him. He was a great friend…. Jan Dockendorf

I met Bruce thru my sister Susie. Bruce always treated her with great care and respect. I will always remember that he had a big heart and didn’t have a mean bone in his body. May you all have peace knowing that he is in a better place and one day you will all be reunited. My sister will miss him for the rest of her life. Patty Shaver

Hi girls. Just wanted to say how great your dad was. I seen his good and bad side. To me he was a great guy. I remember one year when Denny got let go from Beatrice I was working alot of jobs. I had mentioned at one time I thought it’d be cool to run a combine. Wellll your dad hired Dan lentz to show me how to run the equipment, I never laughed so hard in my life. We had tears rolling down out face! So I started helping your dad. One morning I broke down he was already mad at me cuz I woke him up to get going. Well I broke his hydro-stat on the combine. Oh boy! He took it well- or appeared to. He had a shirt made for me that said hydro Jo on it. It was one of the best falls I had. He’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
Jo – you know my dad absolutely loved you! You have been such a great friend to him and us girls. You will always be part of our family! Not only, did you treat my dad with so much love and respect, you were always a mother to Ben when his was in Jerico. For that, we cannot thank you enough for always being there for us.
