He was the son of Harvey and Burneta (Schwan) Westendorf. He attended high school in Fredericksburg and was a member of the 1973 graduating class. After high school Bruce went to work for his dad. They did a lot of tiling together and Bruce enjoyed it. He always loved a job that compensated him well. Later he went on to work for Beatrice Cheese and Conagra as a general laborer around the plant. After quite a few years there he went to work at Subway in New Hampton. Bruce was at Subway for around 8 years and enjoyed his time there. He liked talking to people as he helped them with their sandwich. In Bruce’s free time he loved to watch racing. It didn’t matter if it was NASCAR on television or going to the stock car races in Decorah, West Union or Cresco. His favorite driver of all time was Dale Earnhardt. Besides racing he liked to hang out with his friends and family and going for a cruise around town just to pass the time. Monday nights were special to Bruce because his favorite show, Street Outlaws, was always on. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and always liked mowing lawn. He will be missed by many. 4. Bruce had a great memory and would always recognize people who had been in his life and would love to visit of olden times! May he rest in peace.

  5. We sat near each other in lot of our classes and Bruce always kept a very funny running commentary under his breath that kept me laughing, he was quite a talker once you got him going and a sweet guy. We danced together at Jr. High dances and he never minded that I was taller. I was very glad to know him. Robbie Fye Leach member of Class of 1973, Fredericksburg

  6. I am so sad to learn of Bruce’s passing. He was one of the most appreciative and honest people I have ever known. I so enjoyed conversations with him, and his quick wit. Heaven has certainly gained a very special angel. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family, who he loved dearly and wasn’t afraid to say so. Rest In Peace, dear Bruce.
